At the Service Depot of Siemens Mobility in Dortmund

by

In 2018, Siemens Mobility erected a six-track workshop building and other buildings on the site of the former Dortmund-Eving marshalling yard and laid 5.5 kilometers of track. All maintenance processes can be controlled completely paperless. Employees receive their work orders and all the information they need for repairs and maintenance work on tablets.

The trains, including 82 Desiro HC trains of the RRX, generate status data via eSensors, which is continuously sent to the depot and processed there. This amounts to one to four billion pieces of data per year, which are evaluated for each digital twin of a train. Using intelligent algorithms, the data experts at Siemens Mobility analyze the data for each critical component of the train. The aim is to detect deviations from the norm in order to calculate fault forecasts and provide the technicians in the workshop with acute or scheduled maintenance recommendations. This makes it possible to plan and prepare necessary measures before they arrive at the depot. Spare parts can be provided at an early stage and the deployment of employees can be coordinated. This ensures that the time spent in the depot is as short and efficient as possible so that the trains are available for operation again as quickly as possible.
